Abstract

The food grade commercial enzyme Cytolase PCL5 from Aspergillus niger was used for bioconversion of luteolin from Impatiens noli-tangere L. extract (ILLE). The contents of cynaroside (luteolin 7-O-glucoside) in ILLE was 96.24 ¥ìg/g. The optimal conditions for production of luteolin from cynaroside using Cytolase PCL5 were pH 4.5, 60¡É, 1,000 ¥ìg/g substrate, and 1 mg/mL enzyme. Under the optimum conditions, the Cytolase PCL5 converted cynaroside to luteolin with a molar yield of over 99% within 2 h. The IC50 value of DPPH radical scavenging activity and tyrosinase inhibitory effects of bioconverted ILLE were 72.8 and 98.71 ¥ìg/mL, respectively. The bioconverted ILLE exhibited 1.4 and 2.4 fold higher than I. noli-tangere L. These results indicated that the enzymatic bioconversion of ILLE can be used for developing a new natural functional material for cosmetic and food industry.
